Once the “anniversary” date has passed, if you still need unemployment benefits, you must file a new claim on our website . There will be a break in your benefits between your first year “anniversary” after you file for a second year while we process your second year claim. This delay is a product of the federal stimulus acts providing benefits that require IWD to review your claim for eligibility under state benefits first. When you file your new (second year) claim because your first year of benefits has expired, it will first be reviewed as a new state unemployment claim and we will determine your eligibility for either state or federal benefits. This process of determining eligibility can take several weeks. You must continue to file your weekly claims if you are not working or are working reduced hours. If you are determined to be eligible for benefits, you will receive back payments for the weeks that your benefits were delayed.
